IPTV on Roku: What Really Works

Roku is the most closed of the popular platforms: third-party apps cannot be installed, and playlist players in the Roku Channel Store appear and disappear. A full-fledged IPTV player with a program guide and archive cannot be installed on Roku, but you can watch Utgard TV on a Roku TV in three ways.

What You Will Need

An Utgard TV account with an active package or a trial for 2 hours.
From the "Playlist" section of the cabinet: the "Xtream Codes" block or M3U link — for the player on your phone or set-top box.
A phone with a player or a free HDMI input on the TV.

Method 1. AirPlay from iPhone or iPad

Recent Roku models support AirPlay: make sure that in "Settings" → "Apple AirPlay and HomeKit" the feature is enabled. On your iPhone, open the channel in any player from the iPhone instructions and tap the AirPlay icon, then select Roku. The picture and sound will go to the TV, and you can control it from your phone.

Method 2. Screen Mirroring from Android

In "Settings" → "System" → "Screen mirroring," allow connections. On your phone, enable screen casting (on Samsung, it's Smart View; on others, it may be "Cast" or "Wireless Display") and select Roku. Open the channel in the player from the Android instructions. This method is simple, but the phone's screen is occupied the whole time.

Method 3. Stick or Set-Top Box in Free HDMI

The most reliable option for daily viewing: an inexpensive stick with Google TV, Fire TV Stick, or Apple TV in the adjacent HDMI input. A full-fledged player with a program guide, archive, and login access can be installed on it — see instructions for Android TV, Fire TV, and Apple TV. Roku remains for other apps, and switching inputs can be done with a button on the remote.

Sometimes there are simple playlist players in the Roku Channel Store. They accept the M3U link from the cabinet, but usually without a program guide and archive, and can disappear from the store at any moment — do not rely on them.

If Something Isn't Working

Roku does not appear in the AirPlay list. The phone and Roku must be on the same Wi-Fi network; AirPlay is not available on all models — check the setting on Roku.
Screen mirroring drops. The router is overloaded: enable 5 GHz Wi-Fi on your phone and remove obstacles between devices.
One channel shows "Subscription not active." The package is unpaid or the trial is not activated; activate and refresh the source in the player.
