IPTV in Kodi: PVR IPTV Simple Client with EPG and Catchup
Kodi runs on Windows, macOS, Linux, Android, Android TV, Fire TV, Xbox, and Raspberry Pi — and is set up the same way everywhere. The PVR IPTV Simple Client turns the playlist into a “TV” section with a program guide, logos, and catchup on channels with recording.
What You Will Need
- An Utgard TV account with an active package or a trial for 2 hours.
- A link to the playlist from the “Playlist” section in the cabinet and the EPG address
https://tv.utgard.tv/epg/epg.xml.gz(it is listed there as well). - Kodi 20 or newer from the official website or your system's store.
Don't have an account yet? Create an account and enable the trial: only an email is required, no card needed.
Step 1. Install the Client
- Open “Settings” → “Add-ons” → “Install from repository” → “PVR Clients”.
- Select “PVR IPTV Simple Client” and click “Install”. If the client is already installed, just open it in “My Add-ons” → “PVR Clients”.
Step 2. Specify the Playlist and EPG
- Open the client settings (“Configure”). In Kodi 21, first click “Add configuration for the add-on” and give it a name.
- Tab “General”: “Location” — “Remote path (Internet address)”, paste the link from the cabinet in the “M3U playlist URL” field.
- Tab “EPG”: “Location” — “Remote path”, paste the EPG address from the cabinet in the “XMLTV URL” field. Kodi understands the compressed .gz file.
- Tab “Catchup”: enable “Enable catchup” — catchup will appear on channels with recording.
- Click “OK”, confirm the restart of Kodi.
Step 3. What Will Appear
A “TV” section with channels grouped, a “TV Guide” with a grid for several days, channel logos. On channels with recording, you can open a past program in the EPG. Kodi automatically updates the playlist on startup, so new packages appear without reconfiguration.
If Something Isn’t Working
- No channels. Check that the link is pasted in full, including the part after the question mark, and that “Location” is set to “Remote path”. Disable and re-enable the client in “My Add-ons”.
- One channel says “Subscription inactive”. The package is unpaid or the trial is not enabled. Activate the package and refresh the playlist (in the client settings or by restarting Kodi).
- EPG is empty. Wait a few minutes; check the XMLTV address; in the EPG settings, set “Time shift” to 0.
- Picture is pixelated. For HD, you need 5 Mbps, for 4K about 25; on weak devices, choose HD versions of channels.
